Security recommendations

It is possible to see hackers increasingly using small business domain names to fake emails. For now they use automated systems that create non-sense messages that are easy to catch. However this could get much worst. They could for instance learn the names of the people working on the sites and pretend to be them. For this reason make sure you understand the following recommendations:

  • Always be careful with emails you receive even if they look personal. Remember ANY source of email can be faked.
  • Never follow links in emails. Copy/paste it in the browser instead. The golden rule is never follow anything, take always the initiative.
  • Never send passwords or any personal information
  • Never run or open files attached to emails
  • Never download pirated versions of software. They often contain viruses and malware that are undetected by anti-virus.
  • Remember that anti-virus software is not sufficient
  • Make sure you have your operating system and programs always up to date. Use windows update.

In addition and specifically for QuoteLink.net

QuoteLink.net will not send you internet links within emails inviting you to upgrade or download versions nor will ask user names/passwords by email for whatever reason. If for instance there is a change or for some reason an upgrade is necessary I will send you an email referring you to the News tab on the web site where you would find further instructions. Please follow this rule always even if you receive a personalized email saying otherwise.
